Mekeva McNeil is a theatre maker and educator interested in creating work that explores and communicates the language, movement and beauty of those who live and survive on the fringes of society. She is intrigued by narratives that tackle race, gender, spirituality, and socioeconomic issues. These works are imperative to art giving us a peek into how those on the periphery continue to transcend barriers withinin our society. Mekeva uses her craft to tell stories from published and devised works.
Born and raised in Houston, Mekeva began her studies in theatre at the prestigious High School for Performing and Visual Arts. She went on study theatre at the University of Houston and later moved to New York where she received her MFA in Directing from The Actor’s Studio Drama School at Pace University.
